Capture

Guide

Everything ThoughtPocket does, in plain language. Come back here anytime.

What it's for

Ideas show up uninvited — while you're driving, cooking, or in the middle of something else. ThoughtPocket catches the thought before it gets away: capture it in a couple of seconds, then get back to what you were doing. It gets organized for you, and it's there when you want it later.

Capture a thought

By voice

  1. Tap the big microphone button on the Capture screen.
  2. Speak naturally. A pause is fine — it keeps listening until you tap Done.
  3. Tap Done, then check that the words look right.
  4. Tap Save. Done — you can move on.

Tip: A clear, fairly short thought usually gives the best voice accuracy. You can pause while you decide what to say next.

By typing

Tap Type instead, enter your thought, then tap Capture.

Before you save

ThoughtPocket suggests a Type, Project, Topic, and any People it notices. Tap Change if you want to choose a different Type or Project, then tap Save.

You can correct every detail after saving by opening the thought and tapping Edit.

Find it again (Inbox)

Every thought you capture lands in your Inbox, newest first. Use the search box to look through the thought, Project, Topic, and People, or use the buttons to filter by Type.

The blue search button stays available in the lower-right corner on every screen. Tap it anytime to open the Inbox with the search box ready for typing.

To delete a thought, tap the trash icon on its card (or open it and tap Delete). You'll be asked to confirm first.

Projects

ThoughtPocket groups related thoughts into Projects automatically, so you don't have to file anything. Open the Projects tab to browse them, then tap a project to see its thoughts and a short summary of your current thinking.

To move a thought, open it and tap Move, or tap Edit and choose a different Project.

To remove a whole project, tap the trash icon beside its name on the Projects screen (or Delete this project at the bottom of the project). It tells you how many thoughts will go with it and asks you to confirm — the project and those thoughts are removed from this device and can't be brought back.

View and edit a thought

Open any thought to see when it was created, its Type, Project, Topic, People, and related thoughts. Tap Edit to change the words or any of those details, then tap Save changes.

Move is a quick way to change only the Project. Deleteremoves the thought after you confirm.

Your own Types and Projects

While changing a new thought or editing a saved one, tap Add at the end of the Type or Project choices to create your own. Your new choice stays available on this device.

To remove a choice you added, tap its small ×, then tap Remove to confirm. Built-in choices can't be removed.

Removing a Type or Project choice never deletes or changes thoughts already using it. A removed Project stays on the Projects screen while at least one thought still belongs to it.

Prepare

Open the Prepare tab and enter a person, Project, Topic, meeting, or any other phrase. ThoughtPocket gathers a short brief from your own thoughts, including main ideas, open questions, and a possible next discussion. Tap Show Related Thoughts to see the source thoughts together.

Keeping your stuff safe

Your thoughts stay on your device — nothing is uploaded, and there's no account. The app works with no internet at all: on a plane, underground, anywhere.

Backup and restore

Open Backup from the Inbox. Save a backup downloads a dated file and also keeps a copy in the app under Your backups.

Each saved backup can be restored, shared through your phone's normal share menu, or downloaded again. To remove in-app copies, select one or more and tap Delete. A copy you already downloaded stays in your Downloads until you delete it there.

You can also restore a backup file from this device or another one. Restoring adds missing thoughts without making duplicates of thoughts already here.

Careful with "Erase everything": it removes all thoughts on this device and can't be undone. Save a backup first.
